Request for Formal Audit and Consideration for 2038 Occupational Authority

As identified in the Algonquin Provincial Park Cottage Lot Policy (2018 – 2038), existing Algonquin cottagers may be granted occupational authority (e.g., lease, licence of occupation) to extend the term of occupation for their cottage lots to December 31, 2038, subject to eligibility requirements, policies, limits and conditions, including new rents and service fees.

Cottagers were provided occupational authority from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022 to provide time to meet eligibility requirements, for the Ministry to audit each cottage lot and for the Ministry to issue new occupational authority to eligible cottagers for the period of January 1, 2023 through to December 31, 2038.

Points of Interest for Cottagers:

• You have until December 31, 2020 to have initiated work to meet eligibility requirements and to submit a request for formal audit (See Request Form).

• Beginning in the spring of 2020, ministry staff will begin formal audits of each cottage lot. Audits will occur in 2020 and 2021.

• If a complete survey or sewage system inspection report has not been submitted (to the satisfaction of the Ministry), audits will not be scheduled or conducted until such time the Ministry receives these documents. 

• Once audits for your lot have been completed and if you have fulfilled all eligibility requirements, a formal application for occupational authority for the period of 2023-2038 will be provided to you.

Those cottagers who have successfully met eligibility requirements and received the formal application for 2023-2038 occupational authority can submit the completed application at any time.

If you do not plan to apply for 2023-2038 occupational authority, you will be required to vacate your cottage lot in accordance with the terms and conditions of your existing occupational authority, that expires on December 31, 2022. Please notify Ontario Parks in writing of your intention not to apply for further occupational authority.
