Congratulations to our 2016 Ontario Parks Partners Bursary recipients!

“Protecting the environment is up to us, and it makes me proud to know that for the last six years, I’m been a member of a team committed to doing just that.” — Morgan Miller, student bursary recipient

The summer student workforce is the life-blood of the Ontario Parks summer operating season. Our provincial parks simply could not operate without our student workers.

On November 25, parks staff, corporate partners and students gathered in Peterborough to award the 2016 Ontario Parks Partners Bursaries.

Making Pinery more butterfly friendly

In today’s post, summer student Barbara Alber shares a project she completed this year at Pinery Provincial Park.

Butterflies. They’re beautiful, they’re ecologically significant, and they’re one of the only insects that doesn’t make people squirm.

They’re also in trouble.

Why I love being a park naturalist

As summer fades, we love hearing from our seasonal students. Today’s post is from Michael Berry, a naturalist at Rondeau Provincial Park.

Two years ago when I applied to be a Natural Heritage Education Assistant at Rondeau Provincial Park, I didn’t really know what to expect. I had visited Rondeau a handful of times as a child, but never imagined I would have the opportunity to work there.

Ontario Parks Thanks Students

This past Friday, forty students were recognized by Ontario Parks Partners and Staff for their work in our provincial parks system.

The Ontario Parks Partners Bursary Awards was established in 2000 by several corporate partners who wanted to recognize students who excel in their jobs with Ontario Parks. Peers, the visiting public and/or the student’s supervisor may nominate a student for the bursary. Students must demonstrate high levels of customer service, employee initiative, leadership and dedication in their job.

The $500.00 educational bursary presented to each of these 40 students was donated from Ontario Parks’ Partners. These bursaries help the students with their post secondary education and to pursue their career goals. Many of these students choose to remain in the public service.

On behalf of Ontario Parks, Friends Associations and corporate Partners, we would like to congratulate these outstanding employees.
