March Break 2015 at Ontario Parks

At The Pinery, the Visitor Centre will be open and Natural Heritage Education programs offered daily during March Break and on March weekends. On March 21 from 10:30 – 12:00, a special workshop for parents and grandparents will give new strategies for exploring the natural world with children. Hands-on kids activities will also be available. More park event information including the return of the Tundra swans is on the Friends of Pinery website www.pinerypark.on.ca/

Rondeau Provincial Park on Lake Erie celebrates the spring migration with its annual Wings of Spring event. Owl prowls, waterfowl viewing, birdhouse building, and more will be offered from March 14- 22. A special Meet and Greet Ontario Raptors event is planned for March 22. Bronte Creek Provincial Park‘s annual Maple Syrup Festival is on every March weekend and during March Break from 9:30 am- 3:30 pm. Costumed staff show how maple syrup is made from maple sap the traditional way. Twirl maple taffy in the snow. Enjoy pancakes with maple syrup, of course, or take a wagon ride and visit the new farm animal babies at Spruce Lane Farm. http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/brontecreek

The annual Presquile Waterfowl Weekend is one of the great birding events on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The Nature Centre, Lighthouse Centre and viewing stations along Presqu’ile Bay in Presquile Provincial Park all kick into high gear for this annual event which takes place March 14-15 in 2015. Volunteer birders assist at spotting scopes. Children’s activities, ducks, taxidermy displays, a bird carver and photo experts are at the Nature Centre. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park invites families to join them during March Break for a last chance cross-country ski or snowshoe of the season on the park’s  30 kilometres of groomed and track-set trails. Warm up in the Nordic Centre where you can rent skis or snowshoes or enjoy a hot beverage or snack. Better yet, during March Break, children accompanied by adults, get free rentals. http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/wasagabeach

March Break is a BIG deal at MacGregor Point Provincial Park on Lake Huron. Learn how to make a suet bird feeder. Discover who’s courting who and what bird parenting skills are like on a special birders hike. Meet the park naturalist for a look at the unique behaviors of park mammals. Recognized as one of the coolest adventures in Canada , the Cross Quetico Tour is a unique way to finish your ski season with a real wilderness adventure across the frozen canoe routes of Quetico Provincial Park.
