The Learn to Fish program invites participants to discover a fun outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy! This free two-hour program combines a practical teaching session with hands-on fishing, supported by experienced instructors. Participants learn about fish identification, safety tips and equipment use. All equipment – rods, reels, lures, lifejackets and even a one-day fishing licence – is provided. Everything you need to land your first catch!
In 2015, the Learn to Fish program will be delivered from mid-June to the end of August in six provincial parks: Six Mile Lake, Grundy Lake, Sibbald Point, Darlington, Emily and Earl Rowe.
The program welcomes all ages, making Learn to Fish a great opportunity to get outside and spend some quality time with the family. All kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Did you know the Learn to Fish program is included free with Learn to Camp programs at the participating parks? Last year, more than 4,000 people took to the water with Learn to Fish staff!
This year is the launch of our new Learn to Fish mobile unit. The Learn to Fish mobile unit will be hitting the road over the summer, visiting provincial parks and other community events across southern Ontario. Check out our online schedule at ontario.ca/learntofish to find an event near you!
Free access to fishing gear!
Already taken a Learn to Fish session and ready to venture out on your own? Ontario Parks offers the Tackleshare program in over 55 parks, giving beginner anglers the opportunity to borrow a rod and tackle at no cost. Thanks to this program, access to fishing equipment is easily available to all anglers! Visit tackleshare.com for loaner site locations.

This July 4-12, why not try fishing? Canadian residents can fish licence-free on all Ontario waters. Ontario Parks offers some of the best fishing opportunities in the world. In most Ontario provincial parks panfish are usually spotted along shorelines and offer a great introductory experience for a young or first time angler.
