As of July 8th, 2020 at 11:59pm the City of Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service has issued a city wide burn ban as a result of the extreme temperatures and dangerously dry conditions. As a result, Balsam Lake Provincial Park has also imposed a complete fire ban for the park which includes the use of open fires for cooking and warmth.
During a full fire ban park visitors are permitted to use:
• Portable gas or propane stoves, with a shut off control valve, manufactured for the intended purpose of cooking (i.e., portable camp stoves, single burner units, portable barbeque, etc.), for food preparation only.
Park visitors are not permitted to use:
• Charcoal barbeques or biomass units using natural burning fuels (i.e., sticks, twigs, pinecones, etc.).
• Portable outdoor living gas or propane fire pits or fire bowls manufactured for the intended purpose of outdoor ambiance and recreational enjoyment that produces flame.
The current long range forecast does not have any precipitation and lifting the ban will be dependent on weather conditions offering significant precipitation over multiple days.
