Reptile Day at Rondeau Provincial Park

For the past two years, Rondeau Provincial Park hosted “Turtle Day.” But that left out many of our coolest cold-blooded critters!

This year, we’re expanding Turtle Day to appreciate ALL of our unique reptile species, from snakes to skinks.

Reptile Day unfolds this Saturday, August 22. Meet us at the Bayside picnic shelter at 10:00 AM.

With the help of Wildlife Preservation Canada and the Friends of Rondeau, we’re hosting a full day of activities, with reptile-themed events running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.!

Reptile revelry

staff facepainting
We’ve been practicing our facepainting skills all week!

Our family-friendly events include face-painting, crafts and children’s programming.

Enjoy a guided hike down the Marsh Trail and return in time for a BBQ lunch.

Adopt a turtle

Stuffed turtle
She’s surprisingly snuggly for a turtle!

Okay, so you can’t take the real turtles home (though feel free to “adopt” one of the Blanding’s turtles living in our store!).

Turtle in grass
This little guy was released during our 2013 event.

But you WILL have the opportunity to participate in our Adopt-a-Turtle program. You’ll have the chance to release a hatchling turtle into the wild.

Foxsnakes and turtles and skinks, oh my!

Our research teams will be giving presentations all day.

Don’t miss sessions on eastern foxsnakes, freshwater turtles and five-lined skinks!

Can’t wait until Saturday? Here’s sneak peek at some reptile education:

Why not turn “Reptile Day” into “Reptile Weekend”?

Reptile Day 2015 officially ends at 4:00 PM on Saturday, but why not stay and talk turtles all weekend? We’ve got campsites open on our North and South Campgrounds!

Here’s hoping you slither, scurry or scrabble your way to Rondeau this Saturday!
