Nature-lovers come from around the globe to explore Frontenac Provincial Park‘s trails. Perched on the southern arm of the Canadian Shield, this park features granite outcrops, vast wetlands, scenic lakes and mixed forests.
The trail network boasts short loops for beginners, as well as 20 km+ routes for the seasoned adventurer.
Located just 40 minutes north of Kingston, Frontenac is a terrific day-trip destination. Families can pack a lunch and spend the whole day outdoors. Stop in and warm up at our visitor’s centre, open on weekends. Before heading to the park, reserve your day use permit online up to five days in advance.
More the rugged adventuring type? Turn your day-trip into a winter camping excursion. Frontenac’s backcountry sites are reservable year-round and can be reserved online or by phone 5 months in advance of your arrival date.
No snowshoes? No problem
Frontenac staff are standing by in the park office with rentals!
Snowshoes and poles are available (first-come, first-served) and sizes are available for kids and adults.
Planning to snowshoe as a group? You can call the park office ahead to check rental availability.
Many snowshoers and hikers enjoy the moderate 3 km Doe Lake Loop and easy 1.5 km Arab Lake Gorge Loop.
Looking for a longer adventure? Try the 8 km Snowshoe Trail that follows the Corridor Trail.
Prefer cross-country skiing?
While the park turns Big Salmon Lake Road into a track-set ski trail for the winter months, many areas have a rugged ambiance we like to call “backcountry skiing.” Breathe in the crisp air and revel in the natural solitude as you ski through a silent winter forest!
The track-set ski trail is 4 km one way and features gentle slopes and curves, ideal for the novice skier.

Ice fishing more your cup of tea?
Frontenac offers great hike-in opportunities, too!
Many lakes are located within the park which provide fishing opportunities year-round. Northern pike, various species of panfish (Black Crappie, sunfish, Yellow Perch), as well as Brook Trout can be targeted in the winter.
