Ontario Parks is pleased to announce that the French River Visitor Centre has been declared the recipient of the 2010 Governor General’s Medal in Architecture. The designers of the Visitor Centre were greatly influenced by the natural surroundings and beauty of the park. The building itself draws upon the physical qualities of the river, emphasizing the relationship between rock and water. Featuring a stunning wooden and rock interior design, the building offers a unique opportunity for visitors to learn more about French River and Ontario’s wilderness.
Flowing 110 kilometres from Lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay, this waterway park has more than 230 interior campsites and offers a variety of water-based recreational activities in an outstanding natural setting. The visitors centre is located at the junction of the French River and Highway #69 – about 65 km south of Sudbury.
