Park Advisories

Forest Management log hauling on the Opeongo Lake Rd.

Logging trucks will be travelling on Opeongo Lake Rd from Highway 60 to Cameron Lake Road (approximately 3 km in length). The hauling will be occurring Monday to Friday, from early July to late October. Park visitors may encounter log trucks on this section of the road and will see lower speed limits posted during this time period. Please drive with caution.

Backcountry restrictions:

* Lakes Closed to Camping – Ryan Lake, Dickson Lake and Hardy Bay of Lake Lavieille remain closed to overnight camping until further notice. At this time, the canoe route remains open for travel. These campsites will remain closed for public safety reasons. Some forms of algae can pose health risks to both pets and humans.

*Access Point 1 – Kawawaymog: Very low water conditions on Fassett Creek, Loughrin Creek and Birchcliffe Creek.

*Access Point 2 – Tim River: Very low water conditions on the Nipissing River from Big Bob Lake to Gibson Lake and along the Tim River from Tim Lake to Rosebary Lake and Longbow Lake to Shippagew Lake.

* Access Point 5 – Canoe Lake: Very low water conditions in the following areas - Vanishing Pond (no water), Little Pond between Bartlett and Willow, Potter Creek, Head Creek and Otterslide Creek.

*Access Point 9 & 13 – Rock Lake and Galeairy Lake: Low water levels between Rock Lake and Galeairy Lake.

* Access Point 10 – Sunday Creek (including camping on Fork Lake and Norway Lake): Closed. Access to Fork and Norway Lakes through Sunday Creek is impassable due to low water conditions therefore the campsites on these lakes are temporarily closed.

* Access Point 11 – Lake Opeongo: Low water levels on smaller lakes and ponds.

*Access Points 15 & 16 – Hay Lake and Kingscote : Hay Lake to Little Hay Lake is impassable and there are very low water conditions from Little Hay Lake to Little Branch Lake.

* Access Point 24 – Bissett Creek Road: Vehicle travel to the Lost Coin and Bisset Creek Ranger Cabins is not permitted at this time due to active logging operations. Vehicles must be parked at the Park boundary and access to the cabins is by foot (non-motorized carts are permitted). The walking distance to the Lost Coin Cabin is approximately 6.2 km and to the Bissett Creek Cabin is 1.0 km.

* Access Point 25 – Wendigo Lake: 4-wheel drive access only or 1 km portage to access point.

*Access Points 26 – North River: Very low water from access point to North River Lake.

*Access Points 27– Cedar Lake/Brent: Catfish Lake to Lynx Lake is impassable, very low water from Catfish Lake to Sunfish Lake.

*Access Points 29– Kiosk: Very low water from Club Lake to Mouse Lake and low water on Maple Creek (but still passable).

* Highland Backpacking Trail – Parking for the trail has been temporarily moved to the Old Railway Bike Trail parking lot in the Mew Lake Campground.

Minnesing Mountain Bike Trail:

The fourth loop of the Minnesing Mountain Bike Trail (Callighen's Corners Loop) is currently closed.
