Ontario Parks invites you to celebrate the many health benefits of spending time in nature on July 20, 2017. All operating provincial parks are waiving day-use fees and hosting special events and activities that encourage people to visit parks and be active.

Planting Blitz 

9:30am - Volunteer to help plant trees and create wildlife habitat along with our Park Biologist and our Natural Heritage Education team.

Go Wild for Art

2pm - Celebrate Ontario Parks' 125th anniversary by creating your own unique piece of art.  All supplies provided, just bring your creativity and imagination!

Beach Yoga

7pm - Time to unwind in nature with some relaxing and rejuvenating yoga overlooking the lake. Bring a yoga mat or towel and a water bottle.

Come on out and enjoy a beautiful day filled with activity here at Bonnechere! On Healthy Parks Healthy People Day there is free day-use at all Ontario Parks. The doors are open to everyone in Ontario; there will be no charge for day-use visitation during the celebration.

The idea behind this free-use day is to allow the public time to strengthen and rediscover people's connection to nature! Ontario’s provincial parks are home to some of the most inspiring and beautiful landscapes in the country. We want to increase the awareness and uptake of the strong benefits linked to spending time in nature.

At Bonnechere, the focus will be on a holistic approach to healthy living and enjoying our natural environment. Throughout the day we will have multiple workshops all focusing on different aspects of health.

9:00- 9:30 AM: Yoga on the Beach with Brianna

10:30AM- 12:00PM: Drop-In paint sessions. Come out and explore your inner artist and paint with all the colours of nature!

12:30PM- 1:30PM: Park-wide Scavenger Hunt- Meet at the Davenport Centre for a park-wide scavenger hunt! Be the first one to complete all tasks and win a prize!

1:45PM- 3:15PM: Come out and join in on a bird-house building workshop!


Bronte Creek

Healthy Park Healthy People @ Bronte Creek Provincial Park

July 20, 2018

Free day-use at all Ontario Parks. We are opening our doors to everyone in Ontario; there will be no charge for day-use visitation during the celebration (except our pool).  Bronte Creek Provincial Park is hosting events and activities that encourage people to visit parks and be active. Explore the park, sample our facilities and services or enjoy a fun event in a great natural setting!

The time to strengthen and rediscover our connection to nature is now! Ontario’s provincial parks are home to some of the most inspiring and beautiful landscapes in the country. We want to increase the awareness and uptake of the strong benefits linked to spending time in nature.

Join us as we get outside and enjoy our park through learning and play. All programs are no charge.

OP125 - Ontario Parks is 125 years old.  Learn about the celebrations taking place throughout the province.

Special events and programs

Learn to Disc Golf or Tips from the Pro.                                                                                         10am – 2pm. Parking lot F

Great for beginners of any age!  Pick up a disc, and learn the basic movements/rules, then head out on the course for a round.

Skilled golfers will be on hand to show you the ropes and join for a couple holes or more.

Look for the event tent at the entrance to the course and will have loaner discs available.  There will be club fundraiser discs if anyone wishes to purchase anything above and beyond what we can supply. 

Canoe basics                                                                                                           In the Pool.  11:30am - 3:30pm 

First come first serve.  Registration at pool.  Swim test and PFD required.  We loan out PFD's.

This is your opportunity to learn the basics of canoeing!  30min - 45min family lessons.  No experience needed.  We are hoping this activity will attract visitors who have never had the opportunity to get into a canoe.

This year, 2018, marks the 125th anniversary of Ontario Parks. July 20 is HPHP day as well as OP125 Celebration Day.  Algonquin was founded in 1893 and Ontario Parks is celebrating with a number of anniversary based events and themed programs including art heritage. Art heritage in Ontario- Canada and the growth of the provincial park system are closely intertwined.  Show your creative talents during this hour of art discovery.

Evening run with intro the tips before you set off.  There will be 3 trail running groups (different paces).  Runners will have a chance to win a Summer Vehicle Permit.

Michelle will guide you through your yoga practice, all skill levels welcome. (BYOM - Bring your own mat).

What activities can I participate in?

- Murillo Rural Community Centre will be out putting on kids programming and activities, including a bubble booth!

- Have you ever wondered how a cloud is formed? Or just how much air pressure is in our atmosphere? Join Science North Bluecoats for an exciting live show demonstrating the wonders of weather and climate. This show will blow you away! Show starting at 1pm.

- Join our Discovery Rangers from 2-4pm on the Mountain Portage trail for an exciting Discovery Hike!

It's that time of year again! Healthy Parks Healthy People (HPHP) Day encourages both campers and the public to get out and enjoy what Ontario Parks have to offer. This year, HPHP is getting a makeover with the addition of the Ontario Parks 125 (OP125) celebrations, so our ever-popular activity- and creativity-based programming will be interspersed with vintage throwback-style offerings to show how the park has changed over the years. With free day-use all day (8:00AM-10:00PM) there's no reason not to enjoy the activities and programs throughout the day. Watch out on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) for a detailed schedule of the day's events, which will include a special bat program courtesy of Trent University researchers!

Event Name: Shinrin Yoku – Guided Nature Walk

Description:

Why is spending time in nature so important? Shinrin Yoku or “forest bathing” aims to reconnect us to nature by engaging and becoming aware of all of the senses. It is recognized as a form of therapy, as well as preventative medicine, and is a great way to feel good in the mind, body, and spirit. This simple, but effective nature-based activity is not only beneficial to physical health, but mental and emotional well-being as well. Through a guided meditation, trail walk, and debrief, we will begin to explore how spending time in nature helps to create a better understanding of a healthy body, environment, and community. This event is in celebration of Healthy Parks Healthy People.

Description:

Get outside and explore Rideau River for Ontario Parks' 125th birthday, and our Healthy Parks Healthy People event! Entrance to the park is free until 10pm, and we have lots of fun activities planned! There will be a seine netting demonstration and activity at 11am. Shortly after lunch, the BearWise outreach program from the MNRF will be bringing a bear trap and answering questions, and face painting will be available from 11am-4pm! All activities will take place around our picnic shelter at the Main Beach.

Come out to enjoy our large beach and swimming area, full sized volleyball court, boat rentals and free fishing equipment lender program with TackleShare!

Free day-use at all Ontario Parks. We are opening our doors to everyone in Ontario; there will be no charge for day-use visitation during the celebration. Silent Lake is hosting events and activities that encourage people to visit parks and be active. Explore the park, sample our facilities and services or enjoy a fun event in a great natural setting!

The time to strengthen and rediscover our connection to nature is now! Ontario’s provincial parks are home to some of the most inspiring and beautiful landscapes in the country. We want to increase the awareness and uptake of the strong benefits linked to spending time in nature.

Join us as we get outside and enjoy our park through learning and play. All programs are no charge.
