Wabakimi is a world-class canoeing and recreational area in the heart of northwestern Ontario. The park is one of the world's largest boreal forest reserves and is known for great fly-in fishing, wilderness canoeing and its caribou.

In 1997, Wabakimi was expanded to 892,000 ha, to incorporate glacial landforms, wetlands and most importantly, additional woodland caribou habitat. In size, the park now dwarfs the Province of Prince Edward Island and rivals Yellowstone National Park, the largest U.S. park in the lower 48 states. Wabakimi is primal wilderness on a grand, northern scale. Wabakimi links to Kopka and Brightsand River Provincial Parks in the south and with Albany River Provincial Park to the north. These links provide opportunities for extended wilderness trips.
