Fishing
Walleye and Northern Pike are found in the many lakes along the Spanish River, Brook Trout can be found in the faster moving water and calm pools below rapids as well as smaller tributaries throughout the park.

Canoeing
The Spanish River offers paddlers a number of options when it comes to choosing a route. For those looking for a lengthy trip (8-10 days) with a good mix of white-water and lake travel, why not paddle from Duke Lake all the way to Agnew Lake 145 km. Or pick a shorter route and paddle the Forks to the Elbow (58km 3-4 days). Why not start your trip from the town of Biscotasing the beginning of the West Branch of the Spanish River. A scenic train ride through an ever changing landscape from Sudbury with all your gear is a unique way to start your trip. Paddle among the many islands that dot the big lake and view the vast country, once home to Grey Owl the famous conservationist.

From here it is (165km 8-10 days) to your take out on Agnew Lake, or you can choose to shorten your trip and get off the river at any number of access points along the river.  Hike up to some of the many lookouts to create photographic memories. Spend some time exploring the old growth forests around Cedar Rapids and Reynolds Creek. A detailed, waterproof map of the Spanish River is available from Chutes Provincial Park.

Wildlife Viewing
Moose, Black Bear, River Otter, Osprey and Bald Eagles as well as many forest songbirds like Warblers, are just some of the wildlife that call this park home. While some of them are secretive and avoid human contact, quiet paddlers will find that opportunities exist to view these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat along the river valley.
