Winter Fun at Wasaga Beach

Wasaga Beach Park offers some of the most exciting nordic ski terrain in Central Ontario. The 30 kilometre Blueberry Plains Trails are located in the Dunes Area of the park. This unique features covers 500 hectares and features raised beach ridges, sand dunes and rare plants. It provides an ideal setting for winter exploration.

A Challenge for Every Skier
Wasaga Beach's ski trails are designed to accommodate all levels of skier expertise and both classical and "skating" ski techniques. Each trail is marked with the trail name and is colour-coded to indicate degree of difficulty.

The trails closest to the Trail Centre Parking Lot are designed for novice and intermediate skiers or for the experienced skier who wants to warm up for more challenging trails. The Blueberry Plains Trail suits the novice skier while others may enjoy the 8 km Skating Trail. Once you have warmed up on the classic glide trails, experienced skiers can head for the hills and ski the High Dunes Trail or the Monument Hill Trail for a more challenging outing.

The High Dunes Trail is physically demanding with steep uphill and downhill grades. It is designed for advanced skiers. The Monument Hill Trails takes its names from the parabolic sand dune that it passes. Switchbacks have been added to allow less-experienced skiers to enjoy these trails while by-passing the difficult sections.

Trail Pass Fees:

  Daily Season
Youth $4.00 $40.00
Adult $8.00 $80.00
Senior $6.40 $64.00
Family $24.00 $210.00

Take a Break
Two shelters are available on the trail for those skiers who want to relax, enjoy a snack or warm up before continuing. An open shelter is centrally located for any skiers using the trails close to the Trail Head. A closed shelter is located further along on the High Dunes Trail. Each shelter is equipped with a fireplace, barbecue, firewood and washrooms.

The Blueberry Plains Nordic Centre, located at the start of the Trail Head Parking Lot, provides a heated facility for skiers. It's equipped with washrooms, a snack bar offering light snacks and beverages, an eating area with a fireplace, a lounge and sun decks.

Safety First
Staff at Wasaga Beach have worked to ensure that your day skiing will be as safe as possible. The trails are patrolled by Wasaga Beach volunteers. Three emergency toboggan stations are located on the trail system. These stations provide equipment to help you get an injured skier to medical attention as quickly as possible. You should also follow the skier's code of conduct when using the trail system.

Skier's Responsibility Code

1. Ski in the indicated direction and observe all signs.
2. Always ski to the right when passing an oncoming skier and when skiing a double track.
3. Do not obstruct the trail. Move off the track quickly if you fall and step off the trail during breaks.
4. Yield the track to faster skiers or skiers saying "TRACK" by stepping off to the right.
5. Do not litter. If you pack it in, pack it out.
6. Do not venture or stay out on the trails after dusk.
7. Remain on marked trails. The dunes cover a vast area and it's easy to lose your sense of direction once off the trail.
8. Pets are not permitted on the ski trails.
9. Ski within your capabilities. These trails are not supervised. You and your groups should assess all risks and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
10. Use extra caution during changing weather or icy conditions.
