An Invitation to be part of The Friends of the Massasauga Provincial Park
It is an exciting time for the Park. A group made up of Park users, residents and cottagers has been established to propose the formation of The Friends of The Massasauga Provincial Park.
Provincial Park co-operating associations, or Friends groups, are community based, not-for-profit, charitable organizations which work to enhance the interpretive, educational and recreational objectives of the park with which they are associated. They comprise of a volunteer board of directors and a general membership. An association's activities may include: sponsoring of special events, developing and retailing merchandise, fundraising, and supporting research projects. It is suggested that our Friends group’s initial prime objective will be to restore the Calhoun Lodge property on Blackstone Harbour. It remains to be determined to what extent this will be feasible; the group will work closely with Park staff to further investigate the potential to rehabilitate the current buildings on the site for visitor use.
There will be opportunities this summer to learn more about this initiative, to give your input into how you’d like to see your Friends group develop and for your participation/involvement. Park staff members will be able to provide you with contact information and details regarding a Public Meeting to be held on June 25th at Pete’s Place Access Point.
