Natural Features

On a northeastern spit of Pelee Island, perhaps the most southerly extension of Canada, 96 hectares have been set aside as a nature reserve. The blue racer snake is one of several rare species found within the reserve. There are remnants of deciduous forests and patches of wetland, rich in aquatic plants.

Park Facilities and Activities

The nature reserve has no facilities. The remains of a lighthouse, built in 1834, stand at the tip of the spit.

Location: On the northeastern tip of Pelee Island, 25 kilometres from the mainland. Passenger and vechicle ferries leave Kingsville or Leamington, on Lake Erie's north shore, at regular intervals. The crossing to Pelee Island takes about 75 minutes.
