
DANA DVORAK (Toronto)
Actively involved in the previous Kawartha Highlands consultations, Dana Dvorak has a strong attachment to and respect for the area from her cottage perspective on Wolf Lake. With a Master’s degree in Library Science, Dana retired after 27 years from the Great Library, Law Society of Upper Canada. Dana has been very active in many associations including a current Director of the Federation of Ontario Cottage Associations, past President of the Wolf Lake Cottagers Association, past executive member of the Don Mills Ratepayers Association and current Executive member of the Supporters of the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. TOM FLYNN (Lakehurst)
A carpenter by trade and a beef cattle farmer, Tom Flynn has been involved in municipal government for over 25 years. Tom has served in the position of Reeve of the Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey, where part of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site is located, since the amalgamation in 1998 and previously as Reeve of Harvey Township since 1975. Tom has been the Peterborough County Warden on three occasions during this tenure as Reeve. Tom has participated in the previous Kawartha Highlands consultation process from a municipal perspective and as a member of the Stakeholder Groups of the Kawartha Highlands. JANICE GRIFFITH (Apsley)
As a member of the Kawartha Highlands Local Stakeholder Committee, Janice Griffith has an intimate knowledge of the range of related public values and concerns. Currently the Manager of the Canadian Canoe Museum, Janice was recently the Deputy Reeve of the Township of North Kawartha and has devoted much time to serving the public interest on many committees, including her past role as a Board member of the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation and present role with the Peterborough Housing Corporation. With an educational background and past career experience in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Janice lives year round on Chandos Lake near the Kawartha Highlands. (August 6, 2003 - August 5, 2004)
WALLY HOBBS – Vice Chair (Port Hope)
Previously a member of the Kawartha Highlands Local Stakeholder Committee, Wally Hobbs has a long association and close attachment to the Kawartha Highlands as a frequent visitor to the area. Wally is a retired school teacher having dedicated over 30 years to teaching, during which time he led many outdoor education trips to the area, instilling a strong stewardship ethic with students. Wally is an avid cross-country skiier, hiker, canoeist, angler, cyclist, hunter and naturalist, and has been a 20+ year member of a recreation camp in the area, which he uses as a base for his activities. JOHN MARSH (Peterborough)
An Emeritus Professor of Geography with Trent University, John Marsh has a strong and varied academic background with expertise in planning and management of protected areas and heritage sites, ecotourism and community development. John retired from Trent University in 2002, leaving a career in education that took him to Australia, California, Japan, Mexico and England as a visiting professor and researcher. Some of John’s current research activities are focussed on training for protected areas planning and management, trails and greenways, and cultural landscapes and heritage routes. Despite his travels and many commitments, John has also found time to actively participate in the consultations on the Kawartha Highlands. (August 6, 2003 - August 5, 2005)
KATHY REID (Norwood)
Currently working with the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority as the Co-ordinator of Communications and Education, Kathy Reid has been involved with a variety of natural resource and conservation projects in the Lindsay and Peterborough areas. A present member of the Board of Directors for the Algonquin Forestry Authority and Peterborough Green-Up, Kathy is also a member of the Provincial Steering Committee for the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend. Kathy’s interests include fishing, canoeing, hiking, cross-country skiing, upland game hunting and horseback riding. (August 6, 2003 - August 5, 2005)
LORNE SELLICK (Courtice)
With two family cottages on Anstruther Lake, Lorne Sellick has developed a strong attachment to the Kawartha Highlands over the past 41 years. Lorne is a dispensing optician and manager of Clinic Eyewear in Oshawa. An active outdoorsman, Lorne is familiar with the road and trail system and has travelled all of the canoe routes in the area. Lorne has been a long-term member of Ducks Unlimited and has undertaken projects in the area which include the installation of wood duck nesting boxes, osprey nesting platform and ramps for loons to access potential nesting islands.
