KIM DUNFORD – Chair (Apsley)
The fifth generation of residents in the Kawartha Highlands area, Kim Dunford has an intimate knowledge of and passion for the area. Kim was recently a Councilor with the Township of North Kawartha and owns a building supply business in Apsley. Residing in Apsley, Kim and his family have a cottage on Loucks Lake in the Kawartha Highlands, where Kim also manages a registered trapline. Kim has been actively involved in the consultations on the Kawartha Highlands and enjoys the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, camping and other recreational activities associated with cottaging. HEATHER BROOKS-HILL(Woodview)
Heather Brooks-Hill has actively participated in consultations on the Kawartha Highlands and resides on the east side of the park. Ms. Brooks-Hill is a palliative care professional and President and Chair of the Artists/ Environmental Forum of Toronto. Prior to this, Ms. Brooks-Hill worked in childbirth, environmental and public education sectors for non-governmental organizations in Toronto and North Kawartha. In addition, her work on bereavement support with the EQUINOX project has been presented at national and international conferences. Ms. Brooks-Hill serves as member of the Occupational and Environmental Health Coalition in Peterborough and Co-Project Coordinator of the Uganda-Canada Project "Exploring the Wisdom of the Natural World". THOMAS COLE (Lakefield)
Also a previous member of the Kawartha Highlands Local Stakeholder Committee, Thomas Cole has spent most of his life in Peterborough County, exploring the Kawartha Highlands from his former family cottage on Loon Call Lake and has spent the past 33 years as a lawyer in Lakefield where his family resides. Thomas has a background in municipal politics in Township of Douro, was a former Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, past President of the Lakefield Lion's Club, Director of Hospice Peterborough and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to mention a few of his involvements. Thomas is an avid cross-country skier and also enjoys fishing, hunting, canoeing and snowmobiling. (March 30, 2005 - March 29, 2011)
MURRAY KIDD (Lakefield)
As a member of the Kawartha Highlands Local Stakeholder Committee, Murray Kidd brought to the table his passion for protecting the natural and cultural values, and his knowledge of trapping, hunting and other recreational activities. Having spent his entire life in the area, Murray has worked as a Funeral Director for 39 years and has a cottage on Catchacoma Lake, immediately adjacent to the Signature Site. Murray is a licensed trapper and member of many associations, including being an Executive member of the Lindsey and District Fur Harvesters. Murray has been involved in many volunteer activities including Lang Pioneer Village and the Hope Mill Restoration. (August 6, 2003 - September 9, 2011)
DONALD LACOMBE (Kinmount)
Currently a Councilor with the Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey, Don LaCombe has been a participant in the consultations on the Kawartha Highlands, including the development of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Charter as a member of the Stakeholder Groups of the Kawartha Highlands. Don worked for the Canadian National Railway prior to his retirement in 1993 and has since undertaken some related consulting. During his public service, Don has been involved in a variety of municipal committees including police services and fire department, and is active in many fund raising events. WENDY LYTTLE (Newmarket)
Actively involved in previous Kawartha Highlands consultations, Wendy Sue Lyttle took a leadership role as President of the Catchacoma Cottagers Association to ensure increased awareness and knowledge of the planning process and opportunities to participate. Professionally, Wendy is an experienced association manager and holds a certified designation – Certified Association Executive (CAE) - and her skill sets include working with volunteers and key stakeholders, strong marketing background and partner relationships. Beyond enjoying her cottage on Catchacoma Lake adjacent to the Kawartha Highlands, Wendy is actively involved in many volunteer committees and professional associations, and is also a grassroots member of the Stakeholder Groups of the Kawartha Highlands. JULIA MADDEN (Toronto)
Having spent childhood summers at the family cottage on Big Cedar Lake, Julie Madden’s early connection to the Kawartha Highlands has been strengthened through her activities as an avid canoeist and camper throughout the park. Julia has a degree in parks and recreation management, as well as a Masters in Business Administration, and is certified as a human resources professional. Julia’s past volunteer contributions include support to several municipal recreation advisory committees, the Lake of Bays Tourism Task Force and the Muskoka Trails Advisory Committee. Julia currently works in the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division for the city of Toronto. (February 3, 2006 – February 2, 2009)
G. RICHARD MERIDEW (Peterborough)
As a founding member of the Stakeholder Groups of the Kawartha Highlands, Rick Meridew has been actively involved with consultations on the Kawartha Highlands and in the development of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Charter. Rick has a cottage on Long Lake for over 30 years and has been active in cottage associations including Long and Loucks Lake, and the North Kawartha Lakes Association. Rick is President and Owner of Lakeside Information Technologies Inc., a consultancy specializing in data and web based information solutions. In recognition for his other community work, Mr. Meridew was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. (May 30, 2006 – May 29, 2009)
EDWARD (TED) SPENCE (Markham)
Ted Spence is a cottager on Catchacoma Lake and has participated in all of the consultations regarding the Kawartha Highlands. He has been a member of the Ecological Integrity Sub-committee of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park Management Advisory Board. In addition he is a director of the Catchacoma Cottagers Association, a director of Cavendish Community Ratepayers Association Inc. (CCRAI) and he is a provincial board member of the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations (FOCA). Ted is a registered Professional Planner in Ontario and a Professor in Environmental Studies at York University. Through the course of his thirty-seven year career with the University, he served two terms as Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and 10 years as Senior Policy Advisor to the President of York University. Ted is a graduate of the University of the University of Western Ontario and of the University of Alberta. (August 12, 2008 – August 11, 2011)
BETTY ZYVATKAUSKAS (Scarborough)
Owner of a cottage on Anstruther Lake in the Kawartha Highlands, Betty Zyvatkauskas is a freelance journalist with a special interest in Ontario’s natural environment. She is the author of Naturally Ontario: Exploring the Wealth of Ontario’s Wild Places, and Great Getaways: the Best Day Trips in Southern Ontario. Betty is a regular contributor to Toronto Life magazine’s CityGuides and her work frequently appears in Ontario Travel Discoveries magazine. Betty has served on other boards including, the Scarborough Arts Council and Travel Media Association of Canada’s Ontario Chapter. (October 11, 2006 – October 10, 2009)
