Hiking
Riverside Trail 0.5
km
Mara's only trail winds through a soft-maple wetland and along the
bank of a stream rich in flora and fauna. Watch for jack-in-the-pulpits,
painted turtles sunning on logs and great blue herons standing like
statues by the water.
Fishing
The sport of fishing is no stranger to Lake Simcoe, one of the largest
bodies of fresh water in the area. Its inhabitants include sunfish,
walleye, lake trout, smallmouth bass, perch and lake whitefish.
More information on fishing.
Wildlife Viewing
More than 75 species of birds have been identified here. Mara is
also home to raccoon, muskrat and groundhog. The red-back salamander
is often spotted at swamp edge.
Boating
Mara has a boat launch near the beach but no docking facilities.
Swimming
The wide, sandy beach slopes gradually into the water, ideal for
family swimming.
